Idukki Records Over 1.24 Lakh Tourist Visits During Pooja Holidays
Idukki district witnessed a significant rise in tourist activity during the recent Pooja holiday period, with its major tourism centres recording a total of 124,589 visits over five days. The strong visitor turnout reflects the district's appeal as a destination for nature tourism, hill station holidays and outdoor recreation.
Known for its mountain landscapes, forests, waterfalls, plantations and scenic viewpoints, Idukki attracts travellers seeking both short holiday breaks and extended stays. The holiday season brought increased activity across the district's tourism sector, creating business opportunities for hotels, resorts, homestays, restaurants, taxi operators and other local service providers.
Among the attractions recording high footfall, Vagamon's Motta Kunnu grasslands received 36,246 visitors, while Vagamon Adventure Park welcomed 22,473. These figures formed part of the overall tourist visits recorded across Idukki's major destinations during the five days.
The surge in visitors also highlighted challenges associated with peak-season travel. Heavy traffic around popular tourist locations and limited accommodation availability were reported, underlining the importance of bookings, improved traffic management and adequate visitor facilities.
The latest figures demonstrate Idukki's potential as a major tourism region in Kerala, with several destinations offering varied experiences throughout the year. Better coordination among tourism operators, local authorities and accommodation providers will be important to manage seasonal crowds and ensure a comfortable experience for visitors.
